In Squid Game Season 1, Episode 1, titled "Red Light, Green Light," we are introduced to the protagonist, Seong Gi-hun (Player 456), a down-on-his-luck gambler struggling with debt and trying to provide for his daughter. He encounters a mysterious man who offers him a chance to win a large sum of money by playing a game. Gi-hun, desperate, accepts and is transported, along with 455 other financially distressed individuals, to a facility where they are told they will play six children's games for a massive prize

Key plot points

• Introduction to Gi-hun and his struggles: The episode opens with Gi-hun's chaotic life, highlighting his gambling addiction and strained relationship with his family, particularly his daughter for whom he wants to win a claw machine prize for her birthday.
