It Chapter Two is a 2019 supernatural horror film that serves as the conclusion to the two-part film series based on Stephen King's novel It. Directed by Andy Muschietti, the film follows the now-adult members of the Losers' Club as they return to their hometown of Derry, Maine, to face Pennywise the Dancing Clown one last time.
Plot summary
The story is set 27 years after the events of the first film. An adult Mike Hanlon, the only member of the Losers' Club who stayed in Derry, realizes that Pennywise has returned when a new cycle of murders and disappearances begins. He summons his childhood friends back to their hometown to fulfill the blood oath they made to destroy It if it ever came back.
The Losers—Bill, Beverly, Richie, Eddie, Ben, and Mike—have since become successful but have little memory of their terrifying childhood summer. When they return to Derry, they are haunted by Pennywise and forced to confront their worst fears once more. To defeat It, they must re-learn the ritual of Chüd, which requires them to find "tokens" from their past that are meaningful to them. This quest forces each character to face their individual trauma and fear.
During the final confrontation in the sewers, Pennywise separates the Losers by preying on their personal demons. In the intense struggle, the group discovers that their combined bravery and lack of fear make Pennywise vulnerable. They confront the monster, shrinking it down by calling it out for what it is—a "weak" and pathetic creature. Eddie is fatally injured during the fight, but his sacrifice inspires his friends to tear out Pennywise's heart, finally killing It and ending its reign of terror.
In the aftermath, the Losers are free from their curse and are finally able to leave Derry for good. The film concludes with the revelation that Stanley Uris had taken his own life because he was too terrified to face Pennywise again, knowing his fear would hinder the others. In a farewell letter, he explains that he gave them a better chance to succeed by removing himself from the equation.
