In Attack on Titan Season 1, Episode 7, titled "Small Blade: The Struggle for Trost, Part 3," Mikasa falls into despair after hearing about the perceived death of Eren. Her sorrow and recklessness lead to a critical moment where she nearly dies, but she is saved by the sudden, bizarre appearance of a mysterious Titan who fights other Titans. 

Episode synopsis

Panic at headquarters: With most of the cadets out of gas for their omni-directional mobility (ODM) gear, the Garrison headquarters becomes the only refuge. However, the building is surrounded by a large number of Titans, and panic breaks out among the soldiers trapped inside.

Mikasa's reckless charge: After learning from Armin that Eren was seemingly eaten, a devastated Mikasa leads a reckless charge toward the headquarters, abandoning her usual calm and calculated fighting style. She dangerously uses up most of her gas, forcing the other cadets to follow her and try to keep up.

A brush with death: Mikasa eventually runs out of gas, forcing her to confront a Titan head-on. She is overwhelmed and nearly killed before having a flashback to Eren's words of encouragement. Just as she accepts her fate, a strange, muscular, and un-coordinated "Abnormal" Titan appears and savagely kills the Titan that was about to eat her.

The mysterious Titan: Mikasa and Armin watch in disbelief as this strange Titan, which has long hair and sharpened features, proceeds to brutally kill other Titans, completely ignoring the humans. This sight reignites a sense of hope and purpose in Mikasa.

A plan for survival: Inspired by the mysterious Titan, Armin devises a plan to use the Abnormal as a diversion. The cadets lure the Titans toward the supply depot, where the Abnormal is already on a rampage. This allows the remaining cadets to replenish their gas and continue the fight. 

Significant developments

Introduction of the "Abnormal" Titan: This episode marks the first time the characters and viewers encounter an Abnormal, a Titan that defies the typical mindless behavior of its kind. The fact that it attacks other Titans rather than humans is a startling, world-altering revelation.

Mikasa's emotional journey: The episode focuses on Mikasa's internal struggle and her grief over Eren's supposed death. It shows that beneath her calm exterior, she is capable of being emotionally unhinged when her loved ones are threatened.

Armin's tactical genius: Despite being paralyzed by fear earlier in the battle, Armin demonstrates his strategic prowess by recognizing the opportunity presented by the Abnormal Titan.
